Danske Tursejlere's key issues

Recreational sailing - Danske Tursejlere is driven by recreational sailors and we all have an interest in sharing our passion with as many people as possible. When sailing as a leisure activity, there are many things you need to be aware of and well-informed about. We work to make sailing as easy and safe as possible, and we strive to make the latest knowledge and relevant information easily accessible to our members and member clubs.

Become an organized sailor and be part of the community - There are so many benefits to becoming an organized sailor, rather than being a 'lone wolf'. As a member of a sailing organization, you'll have help and knowledge at your fingertips and stay updated on new regulations and safety measures. You avoid getting 'rusty' and so does your boat! While the silence at sea is wonderful, it's also great to be part of dockside and club activities, where you meet new people and are constantly inspired for new experiences, as well as sharing all the practicalities that come with life as a leisure sailor.

Better and up-to-date competence requirements - We find it extremely important that sailors are constantly updated when it comes to their sailing skills. We work closely with the Danish Maritime Authority's Education Committee to ensure that sailors who go out on the water have adequate training and the latest knowledge about sailing rules and the like.

Sail safely - Safety first! Recreational sailing is fortunately a relatively safe activity, but it can still go wrong from time to time. The vast majority of accidents happen when sailing rules and guidelines are not followed. Danske Tursejlere encourages our members to follow applicable sailing rules and use common sense when participating in all sailing-related activities. We collaborate with Tryg on their Safe Sailing campaign, which aims to reduce the number of sailing accidents in Denmark.

Environmental awareness - As users of nature, we must also protect it and set a good example for other outdoor enthusiasts. Danske Tursejlere participates in a number of forums where topics such as nature and the environment are often on the agenda, along with many other relevant topics. We keep up to date with the latest knowledge to ensure the best possible consideration for the surrounding environment, and we share this knowledge with our members. Together, we will contribute to a sustainable future as recreational sailors and take our share of responsibility for a healthier environment. Room for everyone at sea - Everyone who wants to use the blue Denmark must do so with respect for other users. This applies to those who use the sea for leisure or business, as well as the wildlife that depends on the sea. Follow the rules, keep your distance and show tolerance. Speak to each other with respect, even if you have different interests.

Development of Danish ports - Danske Tursejlere finds it only natural that sailors should have a say in the development of the ports they use so frequently. Sailors know what it takes to make a port practical and user-friendly. That's why we speak up for our members and are in continuous dialog with the various municipalities that are planning the development of their ports.

Elimination/reorganization of state tax on yachts - In 2013, the state tax on comprehensive insurance was suddenly raised by 34% for Danish boat owners. Danske Tursejlere finds this grotesque, as the majority of boat owners are ordinary Danes with average incomes. The tax is wrongly targeted and contains a number of inappropriate features that, at worst, prevent people from getting proper boat insurance and enjoying the boating life. That's why we are at the forefront of the dialog to change this state tax.

Mandatory liability insurance - We all know how important it is to have boat insurance when accidents happen. But we want to work towards making liability insurance mandatory. There are many examples of unfortunate cases where a boat owner is left with the big expense if a counterparty without liability insurance is responsible for damage to the boat. If everyone had liability insurance, many of these types of claims would have a happier ending for all parties.
