Liability insurance
Liability insurance is a legal requirement for certain types of boats. It protects and covers you as a boat owner if you become liable for personal injuries or property under the rules of the Danish Maritime Act.
Why choose liability insurance through Danske Tursejlere?
Firstly, we offer one of the cheapest liability insurance policies on the market because we are over 15,500 sailors standing together. In addition, you get more than insurance with us, as your membership gives you access to a wide range of member benefits, including access to 300 touring buoys, the sailing magazine Tursejleren, attractive member discounts and much more.
Our liability insurance is included in the membership of Danske Tursejlere, which costs from DKK 480 per year.

Statutory boat insurance
As of 15 May 2018, all speedboats under 15 meters, jet skis and similar vessels must be covered by statutory liability insurance. This means that you must be able to present a valid insurance certificate and a receipt for payment confirming that the boat is covered by liability insurance.
As an owner or skipper, you are strictly liable for any personal injury or property damage, regardless of whether you caused the damage or not. Just like you know from your car
Sailing without liability insurance - Is it a good idea?
No matter how good a skipper you are, you can never be sure that situations won't arise when you're out on the water where insurance would be a good idea. Boat liability insurance is typically a minor financial expense in the overall budget, but can be the best bill you've paid when buying a boat. It's also important to mention that more and more harbors require you to have liability insurance before you can use their facilities.
How to sign up
To take out insurance and membership with us, you need to complete our short registration form. Here we need some information about you and your boat.
Here's how you do it:
Go to our registration form. Select the package you want, then fill in all the information and press submit. We will verify your registration shortly and you will receive a membership package including a membership card by post. If we have any questions, we will contact you on the phone number provided.
You are of course welcome to contact our customer service on +45 70 21 42 42 if you would like us to assist you with your registration by phone.
The contribution is a consequence of the establishment of the "Guarantee Fund for uninsured or unknown vessels under 15 meters". After the Danish Parliament passed the new law on compulsory liability insurance for certain vessels (L 175) on May 15, 2018, a speed surcharge may be charged if the vessel is covered by this legislation.

Boat liability insurance - price
We understand that price is an important parameter when it comes to the boat budget, as the budget already requires a good buffer for unforeseen expenses. That's why we offer insurance at a reasonable price. You can insure your boat from just DKK 480 per year and the insurance is included in our membership.
You also have the option to supplement with comprehensive insurance
Extra supplements
The following surcharges are charged in addition to the membership and insurance to Danske Tursejlere when your boat requires a speedboat certificate.
- If your boat can sail up to 20 knots, a speed surcharge of DKK 200 per year will apply.
- If your boat can sail up to 21-30 knots, a speed surcharge of DKK 400 per year will apply.
- If your boat can sail up to 31-45 knots, a speed surcharge of DKK 800 per year will apply.
Pay via PBS
If you do not sign up for PBS payment, we will send the invoice to you physically via Postnord, and a collection fee will be charged. As sailors, we care about the environment, and can therefore only recommend that you make sure that the payment is electronic, so we avoid unnecessary waste of paper.
Have you missed out on insurance?
If this is the case and the accident occurs, the Danish Parliament has passed a law stating that an insurance association should be established where the insurance companies that offer boat insurance under the new rules must be members. In our case, Lloyds represents Søassurancen and Danske Tursejlere in the association.
