Coverage on comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance is a type of insurance that typically covers damage to the insured object, whether the damage is self-inflicted or caused by external factors. Our comprehensive insurance comes in 3 different levels, which of course affects how you are covered.

How does comprehensive insurance cover?

Here are general points about what you are covered:

  • Own damage
  • Accidental accidents
  • Theft and vandalism
  • Lightning strike
  • Other unforeseen damage

What does the insurance not cover?

Not everything can be covered by insurance, and our comprehensive insurance does not cover everything:

  • When the vessel is used for commercial purposes, including lent or hired out against payment
  • Damage caused intentionally or under the influence of alcohol and euphoriant substances
  • That the vessel was not seaworthy, properly drained and properly equipped and manned
  • Damage to objects as a result of normal use, wear and tear, corrosion and similar

Limitations

There are situations where our comprehensive insurance has possible limitations, and you should pay special attention to these:

  • Damage that has not fully complied with the company's safety regulations.
  • Damage occurring outside of approved A and B ports, or for sway, where higher deductibles may apply.
  • Damage where the GPS tracker or other required theft equipment has not been active.

Which insurance should you choose?

The choice of insurance depends on several factors:

  • Your needs: Consider what you want to protect and what risks you are most likely to face.
  • Your finances: Choose an insurance policy that fits your budget, but make sure you don't compromise on necessary coverage.
  • Excess: Consider how much excess you are willing to carry. Higher deductibles may reduce the premium, but it means you'll have to pay more out of pocket in the event of a claim.

The benefits of comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance offers broad coverage against many different risks and damages. Here are some of the benefits of having comprehensive insurance:

  • Comprehensive coverage: In addition to protecting against damage caused by third parties, comprehensive insurance typically also covers self-inflicted damage and damage caused by unforeseen events.
  • Financial protection: Comprehensive insurance protects you against major financial losses.
  • Peace of mind: Knowing that you have comprehensive insurance gives you peace of mind, no matter what challenges or accidents may arise.
  • Less financial stress: By paying an annual insurance premium, you protect yourself from having to pay large lump sums in the event of a claim.
  • Flexibility: We offer the option to customize coverage according to individual needs, so you only pay for the coverage you need.
  • Easier sale: If you decide to sell your boat, being able to show that it has been covered by comprehensive insurance can be beneficial as it can increase the confidence of potential buyers.

Not just you and your boat are covered

Our Silver and Gold packages come with additional insurance coverage. These include, for example, legal expenses and accident insurance.

Accident insurance

This covers your fellow passengers on board (up to 6 people). Accident insurance covers incidents that occur while you are on board.

Legal expenses insurance

To make use of this insurance, you should generally first consult a lawyer who will guide you through the necessary steps. The insurance has an upper limit of coverage and a deductible.

Three situations where comprehensive insurance is important

Damage due to defective mooring pole

If your boat is in a port categorized as an A port (approved for year-round use), you may be concerned about the strength of the mooring stakes in relation to the size of your boat. Who is responsible if a pole breaks and damages your boat? This depends on why the pole breaks.

Many factors such as the condition of the pole, weather conditions, and the quality of the mooring can play a role. If the port is responsible for the damage, they must cover it. With comprehensive insurance, you can get the damage covered quickly while the insurance handles compensation from the port.

Self-inflicted damage and shipyard liability

Imagine your boat has been in a shipyard for maintenance all winter. On your way out of the harbor, you suddenly experience problems and collide with the dock. This happens because the boat has lost its propeller.

Without comprehensive insurance, it is up to you to prove that the shipyard is responsible for the loss of the propeller. However, if you have comprehensive insurance, the damage and loss will be covered and compensation will be sought from the shipyard.

Problems when using a harbor crane

When your boat is lifted or launched using the port's crane, possibly with the help of a hauler, accidents can occur. Who is responsible in such situations? It could be the port, the haulier or yourself. Either way, your comprehensive insurance covers any damage. If someone else is at fault, your insurance company will claim compensation from them.

Overall, it's important to remember that comprehensive insurance gives you extra protection and makes the process easier in the event of an accident.

Tax on comprehensive insurance

For the boat's comprehensive insurance, a fee is calculated based on the sum insured. All insurance companies in Denmark must collect this tax. If you choose to insure your boat through a foreign company, you are responsible for paying the tax to the Danish tax authorities.
